"I’m the curious observing type. Seeing nature’s patterns; the fall of light, transient colours both subtle and bold, textured surfaces, the incredible symmetry and correlation. The wonder of it all. It is through both painting and photography that I am always exploring and learning, as more is peeled away to reveal this intrinsic beauty and essence of what surrounds us."

Born in New Zealand, Karen moved to Australia in the early eighties and has lived in Central Queensland for the past eighteen years. Her travelling, always with a camera, has been the source of inspiration for her art work.

Karen’s first exhibition, a solo photographic exhibition "In The Pattern of Things" in March 2006, was a collection of 46 works highlighting her love and respect for her surrounding natural environment. She received the Cap Coast Mirror Print Award for her triptych "Lattitude 23°" at the Capricorn Coast Art Festival in 2008.

She has a Diploma of Visual Arts, majoring in painting and printmaking from the CQ Tafe.
